About Us

Tertiary Sports Western Australia Inc. conducts inter-university sporting competitions and programs for university/tertiary students in Western Australia. The Association is governed by a Council, consisting of sport and recreation representatives from the five Western Australian Universities and is administered by the UWA Sport and Recreation Association Inc.

The Program

Most Tertiary Sports W.A. competitions and events are conducted using a tournament style format with reduced playing times to allow for full completion on the date allocated for each sport.

The Tertiary Sports W.A. Program for 2008 features:

• Western University Sport Championships (22 sports; 39 divisions)*
• Social/participation Sporting Competitions (11 events; 12 divisions)
• University Teams competing in Community Participation Events (including the Freeway Bike Hike, Bridges Fun Run and City to Surf)
• Student Practicum/Field Placement Program (for university and TAFE students)
• Enough is Enough Sports Star Awards (Most Valuable Player Awards, Annual Athlete, Team, Practicum Student & Official Awards)

* includes sports to be contested in the 2008 Australian University Games - Melbourne

Who Competes?

The Tertiary Sports W.A. Program is open to teams representing the following West Australian Universities:

• Curtin University of Technology
• Edith Cowan University
• Murdoch University
• The University of Notre Dame Australia
• The University of Western Australia

and T.A.F.E. and other tertiary education institutions by invitation.

Where are Events Held?

In order to ‘take the sport to the students’ and to increase sponsor exposure, Tertiary Sports W.A. events are held at a variety of university campuses and community venues.  For further information on event venues see the 2008 Tertiary Sports W.A. Calendar of Events.
